Something interesting that I noted while reading through my new Glottkin book (bear in mind I have the electronic version not hardcopy) - Glottkin does not have the Large Target rule. This despite him being the largest Fantasy model GW have produced to date.
So what I here you say? Well it does have some interesting implications. It restricts his Inspiring Presence radius to 12" rather than the expected 18" (and KFC's 24"). This makes his Leadership 10 a little less impressive.
Bear this in mind if using or facing the Brothers Glott.
I may be missing something or it may be an oversight in the electronic version, so let me know if I'm incorrect.
He can also potentially claim cover bonus from obstacles! B. R. O. K. E. N.
ReplyDeleteThe Demonic Alliance is now actively building fences to blunt the artillery of the Empire and Dwarfs.
DeleteAnd you never saw The Rock of Inevitability coming......it was a Glottkin plot all along
TLOS + Garden of Morr walls could do it...
DeleteThe Glottkin count as a monster(character) all monsters are automatically large targets. READ THE RULES!
DeleteLazy rule writing...
ReplyDeleteThat's laughable, but not unexpected from our favourite miniatures company.
ReplyDeleteWait so you are saying a new release is not perfect... how dare they!

DeleteMr Anonymous, I agree, no-one should expect perfection, it's too costly in time and effort in most cases.
DeleteBut when you're a professional rules writer, looking at a model of the biggest fricken' miniature for the game that's ever been produced, it should occur to you that, being so large, it might be a Large Target.
That's not perfection, that's basic competence.
He ducks, he bobs, he weaves... floating like some sort of pustulent moth with hornet stinging tendencies. He's not some mindless thrall or mount. It's totally ok... geez.
ReplyDeleteNow now, I'm sure all this has been cleared up in the new Glottkin FAQ:

Oh wait.
yeah right.
DeleteOf course GW may have done this deliberately as Large Target is a rules mechanism affecting Leadership and susceptibility to cannons.
ReplyDeleteThey may have decided that the Glottkin only inspire confidence within a limited radius and that giving the ability to "hide" behind an obstacle - regardless of size - best reflected its survivability vs shooting.
Or it could be a mistake....the classic RAW vs. RAI conundrum
...or maybe the 9th Ed will have no extension of the Inspiring Presence bubble despite the size and any big model can hide... just saying. Personally, the whole shared profile does not make sense much right now, but it has the potential to reduce the cannon power against the centerpiece models when the cannonballs can kill ones General and his favorite Fluffy in one shot by giving these models extra wounds and making them a solitary target.
