I know this has been briefly discussed on Twitter, but to confirm:
Does this chart override where an offical GW model is sold either without a base (eg Empire cannon), or with a different base size to that in the chart? (eg Wood elf Dragon, Empire Pegasus)
and, does having unbased artillery affect your painting score?
All good points - I havn't personally had the outcome of a game affected by a 40mm based eagle, but I understand the concern that it potentially could.
Are you able to confirm that the chart overrides GW supplied bases as "official" (for FOB events) and whether a painting score will be affected by having either no base (eg artillery) or a base size different to that on the chart (eg Woodie dragon)?
Will it hit painting scores - no. But I do think Warmachines look better on bases and that might get more points :-)
If you have an existing Forest Dragon do you need to rebase it? - No. But you do need to bring a chariot base to blutack it to for "gaming purposes". If you buy a new Forest Dragon then I'd hope it was based on the 100mm base.
Am I going to break into your house or rifle through your bins looking for its packaging to prove you are a gamey git? no. I might just think you were unaware - though Joel I will produce these comments in your case :-)
In the end this is not meant to be Team Pete Base police. Really it is aimed at giving some clarity for gaming purposes so there is less chance of an in-game misunderstanding.
So let me see, if I go to a FOB event,my DE pegs, have to be on 40mm bases , Any other event can be re the rules on 50 mm bases., Is call to arms a FOB event ?
Let's put this in context - If you wish to attend the NZTC then at some time in the next eight months you'll need to re-base three models from 50mm square bases to 40mm square bases.
I think this pretty much defines "First World Problem"
Calm down Pete ,I know you are losing your star biter (striker). And you know I will be there.just don't want to rip my models of there bases for one event ! And an awesome one it is. Will have to come up with a plan, any ideas ?
I'm just glad we have a decent manager now. I get your point with the 40 mm bases ,let's hope the rest of the country don't succumb to Peer pressure !!!!!
hey Pete, I'm not trolling.. just preface this :) I have 4 high elf bolt throwers which technically in the rules don't have to be on bases. I've put them on 40mm because 1. I agree with you warmachines look better on bases 2. 40mm fits nicely. Do I have to rebase them for a FOB event as the chart says 50mm?
What could do with some clarification is gamers who use old (and much shorter in height) models to game the TLoS rules. I think this is unfair, and it punishes new gamers who don't have access to the older and much shorter miniatures. Personally I don't have a problem with people using old miniatures (in fact I really enjoy seeing them on the tabletop) but it truly is inconsistent in a tournament situation. It is easily remedied by either: 1. Adopting a height chart at a tournament... 2. Converting the miniature to be slightly lager and more visible. I did this with my old Empire steamtank, adding sentinel legs with spinning blades, thus increasing the height.

It does if you are trying to join a model to a unit - it determines how it is placed.
DeleteIt does for determining frontage for combat.
And if your base is significantly different size of footprint then you should bring the larger base to use for movement/marking purposes e.g. shooting
In the end it is probably easier to re-base.
As for Artillery - I'm not really seeing the impediment to putting them on a base. It makes the game easier.

So Pete this is for NZTC as well

Hope that answers

Yes Glen...especially for the NZTC
DeleteThen crap !!!!!
DeleteYeah sorry for the late notice....I appreciate 8 months is a bit unreasonable :-)
DeleteIt's the DILF's Pete. They need that long to prepare to get 3rd again.

Yep, FOB events on 50mm bases.
DeleteCall to Arms is run by the Wellington Warlords
So Pete you have joined Sam as a hobby recker then.

I actually prefer mine on 40mm.

Sam ,you hobby reckers stick together !!!!
DeleteHere's a plan - stick them on a 40mm base
DeleteAs for Luis - I'm more than happy for him to go to Barca for GBP 85 million. No 27 year old is worth that money. I'd bite their hand off...oh wait.
As long as we don't waste it, I'm happy. Very happy with the purchase of 20-25 year olds...Lalana not so much
I'm just glad we have a decent manager now.

NOOOOOOOO now I cant bring my giant Hullk, since he is too big for the base measurements! (he is on the Arachnarok's base)

ReplyDeleteAs per our Hangout.....preference is for 50mm...base them on 40s if you wish but then you can just blutack onto a 50
ReplyDeletethanks Pete, yep no problems with that. Can make a "movement tray" that will make it 50mm base for NZTC cheers
ReplyDeleteGiant Pox Rat on a 40*40?! Damn no Forge World Brood Horror proxy for me
ReplyDeleteAnd to make matters worse, FOB events use a Painting Checklist. Will this descent into madness ever stop?
ReplyDeleteHere I am at 2.00am planning my next dastardly move!
