Runefang VII - Catch The Worm!

EDIT: Today (Friday 14th) is last day for Earlybird Registration. At present there are nine players signed up. I'm suspect that number will likely double over the time up to the event. Looking at 16-20 people target.

Just a reminder that Earlybird Registration for Runefang VII finishes on Friday. You can grab the Players Pack here

This will be your only opportunity to use Swedish Comp at a Fields of Blood event this year so if you are keen to try it out then sign up.

Why is this so dear Peter? I hear you ask.

Well let's just say the numbers registering don't really support another Swedish event. Rather than the influx of people keen to try the diversity and variety of Swedish Comp, the numbers registering have been decidedly underwhelming. At present seven people have signed up which suggests a final number in the 16-20 participants. This contrasts poorly with the normal 24-30 that I get at FOB events so I am making the assumption Swedish is not as popular as I've been led to believe and people are voting with their feet.

Certainly it seems as far as the "Kevin Costner Edict" goes something is lost in the Scandinavian translation.

  1. Not sure its Swedish comp but rather that its on a long weekend in the middle of school holidays and a lot of us have partners who *ahem* may have made plans for us already

    1. Agree with John - I'm on holiday as you get 10 days off for 3 days leave :)

    2. Nah, that happens whenever there's an event, some people can't make it. Runefang has been this weekend for last five years so it's not that.

If people want to play Swedish they'd come along cashing in whatever chips on the home front as necessary.

The attraction of Swedish is not sufficiently alluring to attract people. No hassle, I just know for future.

  3. Too early to make your judgement Pete, the early bird hasn't closed yet. I have not got a round tuit yet.

    1. Never to early to make a call Neil....I'll get 2-3 more by tomorrow and 6-8 over intervening 5 weeks. We'll have around 18-20 vs. normal 25-30

That's fine but doesn't support the argument that people crave variety.

      I built it....and they didn't come

    2. "I want variety" is just another cry for help from those who netlist and still dont finish near the top

  4. Not that I have any particular love of Swedish following the pain that was Cancon, but isn't one tournament a little preemptive to judge things?

Scientific process tells me this is a slight jump to conclusions unless you actually get data from all regular tournament attendees...

    1. The only data that matters James is attendance, It's all about bums on seats ($$$$). The rest is just conversation,

    2. Seriously.....I'm more than happy for there to be more Swedish Comp events here in Wellington. However they will just have to be on someone else's $$, not mine.

Now as you say there might be any number of reasons why people can't come but looking at the list of attendees so far there doesn't appear to be anyone who has attended because it's Swedish. All are names that regularly attend events.

Date for Runefang has been flagged since January (as has fact it was Swedish). If people had had any special love for Swedish I'm sure that they would have made an extra effort to be there.

    3. Sorry, that was supposed to be more tongue in cheek than it came across as.

Understand the issues you have with dollars so i agree you can't afford to run tournies that dont seem to be embraced by community.

Personally though, I really dont think what type of comp is being used is a big determining factor for majority of players.

I think (and this is just me but ive noticed it with other gamers too) theres enough two day 2400 pt tournaments these days opposed to previous years that a) they arent quite so exciting anymore (like my waning interest in rugby when its on 50 weekends of the year...) and b) it becomes increasingly hard to justify using a free long weekend for gaming when in a month or two there'll be another tournament that doesn't sit on a long weekend.

Thats just my perception of it and mileage may vary. And this is not to say anything is being done wrong either, Id be signed up for Runefang if I was there!

    4. really not exciting anymore? maybe for those lucky few who can attend pretty much every or any event not matter where its held. But for those us for whom Petes Wellington events are our only source of competitive gaming they're always exciting.

I would have registered for Runefang by now but haven't yet worked out how to get spousal approval - once its locked in Ill be registering as its an event I've always enjoyed and I really don't want to miss it.
