Sorry but they don't scream Chaos Space Marines to me. They are probably lovely models but they look very much like extras from a Transformers Decepticon playset.

Okay.....I like the Warpsmith. I can see him getting a home in my Iron Warriors. The renamed Raptors are also very nice.
I guess I'll be in a minority here but I am going to be very interested in the fluff re the monsters/flyers. Where have they been keeping these for the past 10,000 years? And with Abaddon's 0-13 record for Black Crusades I would have thought he would have rushed them to the front earlier.
Nice models but I'm not sure I'm drinking the Koolaid. Did I miss the secret communication or something?
NEWSFLASH: FW Horus Heresy Book GBP70 plus postage. Book is full colour hardback, "leather" bound.
Man, I was looking foreward to this release, but these would have to be some of the Fugliest models GW have released. Glad I have got me some salamanders!!
ReplyDeleteThey have a hint of Warmachine about them....not an aesthetic that appeals to me.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteSaw these this morning .....terrible looking figs IMO.The flyer looks ok but the rest are shit.Really hoping that the WoC models don't look as crap as these do
ReplyDeleteI don't know... I kinda like them. They are certainly breaking away from the 'Imperial, just twisted' aesthetic and striking out for something new. They seem like something the Dark Mechanicus would do, fusing machines and warp creatures to create, well, chaos. As to where they have been for 10,000 years... probably hanging out with the Necron Dynasties :)
ReplyDeleteIf we didn't allow new fluff to retroactively apply, we'd still be calling it gene-sperm, which makes the "apothecaries" extracting "gene-sperm" from their brother marines is a bit.... Well yeah.
ReplyDeleteYou've pretty much summarised the Dark Angels fluff
ReplyDeleteIt seems they're really trying for the 'daemon-flesh fused with machine' aesthetic. Personally I think they look very Iron Warriors. That's partly the paintjob, but the design is more mechanical than it is organic. That might be fine for someone with an Iron Warriors or even Khornate army, but I'm not sure if those work in a Death Guard force without massive conversion.
ReplyDeletePersonally they don't seem very daemonic to me. At least they're not just spiky Land Raiders, but they don't look like the twisted creations of the Warp.
If you have a look at the mawlerfiend, theres a heap of flesh they've painted as metal so you miss it. I think with a different paint job they really will look a lot better.
DeleteG'day Charlie,
DeleteI saw that, and I understand what they're trying to do. I just think they look too..... neat and organised, like there's a factory producing Mawlfiends somewhere in the Eye of Terror to a set of blueprints. A different paint job will help, but as it is, they don't look like what I'd imagine Chaos warmachines to be. Then again I'm struggling to think of what would work and still be safe for 12 year kids to buy. Kingdom Death might be in the right vein, but then again, I'm not sure little Timmy's should be playing with 'The Mother' (I shouldn't be either, it scare me)
We can't be 100% sure that there aren't going to be conversion bits in the boxes to make other chaos god style versions.. maybe they will have tzeentch or slaanesh or nurgle style tentacles, claws, or eye-stalks that can make them less Iron Warriors and Khornate and more creepy... my only other concern is where do these (other than the flyer) fit into the chaos army... I mean, are they basically larger alternative dreadnoughts (fury/rage, whatever, point at the enemy and let go?) or are they going to replace tanks (minus transport capacity) or get left out of most armies kinda of like the Terofexes and carnifexes in the tyranid lists b/c they are too pricey for that they do? Also, where is the cultist love? .. lol
