    1. So despite the tiny heads on those beasts, overall I am pretty impressed, but no less impressed than I have come to expect from each new release.

    1. Hehe I'm waiting for the Dwarf players to really start grumbling now, oh look empire just got a more impressive shooting phase, monstrous cav to go with all the regular Cav options and lots of big nasty stuff :)

Personally I like the models and I think more options can only be a good thing, as long as the points cost is balanced it will just lead to more varied lists which benifits everyone.

  3. The starter box set griffion is nicer, and far more dynamic
The three wagons look top heavy and remind me of those Warmachine ones
Some new characters are a bit generic, althought the witch hunter looks nice
However the chochabo riders (anyone get the reference?)came out better than I anticipated, but will still get the chicken monkier...
Dissapointed in the direction GW have taken Empire...

    2. I cant remember what colour chocobo you wound up having to get to go everywhere you needed, so that you could get knights of the round, etc... was it a black one? It's been so long, I should play it again!

    3. You needed a gold one to fly across the ocean I think. Black could go everywhere else though. Damn nostalgic that is. Glad I'm not the only one who instantly thought of chocobos. I like the new big kits but will they suffer the cannonball fate of most of their compatriots?

    4. Gold one goes everywhere.

But If I can make a decent Empire list at 2400 for very few models I think I could run it at the only Fantasy Tournament I am thinking on going to this year

  4. Lucky enough to have scored a early release copy of the WD...here's a few tidbits from the issue pertinent to the Empire release.

1)Any regiment lead by a captain or general tests their leadership on 3D6 discarding the highest roll! The new definition of Lizard-MEN!
    2)New Imperial Griffon strength 6!
3)Witch hunter has KB and sniper

Wow, that is an enormous change. Thanks for the headsup

  6. Well anything that encourages people to take captains over warrior priest's has to be a good thing IMO.

Testing on 3D6 makes units less prone to panic, and breaking from small losses, makes very little difference when testing on snake-eyes.

3D6 does make a large difference when testing for "snake-eyes"
    Chance on 2D6 = 2.8%
    Chance on 3D6 = 7.4%
    Chance on 3D6 with a re-roll = 14.3%

That's potentially an 11.5% difference which is statistically significant (when considering P number)!

  8. Yep I view it as significant difference as well.

However I think the risk/reward is potentially out of whack when you consider in the overall context - especially if General.

A 14% chance of saving likely elite/large unit plus Character plus General Bonus is not a mouth-watering choice.

I think I'd try an engineer a "Wait Here and I'll go get help" prior to a combat with that potential outcome.

  9. Whats with the new Griffon model for Karl Franz? I mean.. that armoured chestplate? Made me think of a steam tank with feathers...

  10. Remember though that the 14.3% is based on a worst case scenario, and that "snake-eyes" will be required less often than say losing combat by 5 (which on leadership 9, 3D6 and a re-roll gives the unit taking the Ld test a 58.6% chance of passing)...
However, you are right in saying that 14% isn't great when considering that the general may be in the unit, the old adage of "eggs-in-one-basket" and relying on the "hail Mary" 14.3% spring to mind, not being totally wise in either respect if the battle plan revolved around this....
It does raise the interesting prospect of say a unit of 40x swordsmen ranked up 5 wide, led by their general, 6+ parry saves, maybe a warbanner thrown in somehow, generating a static res of 5...it would be a tough nut to budge...(depending once again on the defensive equipment available to the empire general, I hope they don't cut the AoMI...)
