Internet Rumours!

There is a lot of bandwidth being consumed on Dakka, Warseer, WAU etc suggesting that Games Workshop will be making an announcement on Monday May 16th prohibiting northern hemisphere internet retailers from shipping to southern hemisphere addresses.

Could be an interesting time in 48 hours. I wonder if the CPI captures a 40% price increase.

  1. If this is true then there goes hobbying for me. The only reason I can justify spending on warhammer is the 45% cheaper prices from the UK.

Though I have probably fueled the problem by buying my last two armies this way. I don't think this is a solution for GW, surely buying from maelstrom is better than me not buying at all.

  2. It certainly is an interesting thing to try and do. I am quite looking forward to the commerce commission's opinion on the matter. A 40% price differential is going to make people do something.

  4. The only reliable information I picked up is that GW has passed on its new trade terms to Maelstrom, and will reveal these on Monday.

I hope they don't stop them selling to us here in NZ. If they do, there's a couple of thousand dollars I won't be spending on High Elves and Warriors of Chaos, my next two armies. If I do make a second Warhammer army, it'll be Empire, probably using Perry figures or something similar.

Or I might take up Modern Spearhead again. Whatever I do, it won't be by buying figures from GW New Zealand. Stuff 'em.

So let's just hope it's all ado about nothing.

  5. Wow, that's big news.
I guess the alternative is to buy on eBay or just bend over and take the local prices.

  9. Having just moved to the UK, I'd be more than happy to help anyone out should this come to pass. Hopefully GW isn't that stupid and possibly even more hopefully, the commerce commission would look at the huge price gap and step in... Definitely going to be interesting come Monday.

  10. I tried shipping from a mate in the UK not that long ago (before I learned of free shipping online retailers). The prices is prohibitive unless parcels are kept to certain sizes etc, so check it out before buying.

Heres hoping that GDW add some carrot to thier stick by changing thier prices to match the actual exchange rate.
Maybe they thought the change in the pound was temporary, and not based on the UK going "Spainward"?

  12. I hope this aint true. Sometimes GW really does seem to go out of their way to p*ss off their customers. I can see their issue, but will still be 'annoyed'. It's not like there's a shortage of options out there.

On the plus side I guess 'The son & heir' may well bug me less often for orders to Maelstrom Games ... though hopefully current orders will be honoured as a Screaming Bell was ordered over a week ago. Then again I may just be the recipient of requests for more orders for Perry Miniatures, Front Rank etc. If so it will be GWs loss!!
